Victor M. Saldivar has managed to position Conventions & More as one of the leading businesses in the rental of event equipment.
Review Before interviewing Victor M. Saldivar, someone who knew him and his work said “that man is everywhere, I don’t know how he does it but he manages to take care of any event in the city.”
This person was not at all wrong, and not far from reality, the truth is that through his company Conventions & More, Saldivar has managed to position his company in the market as one of the leading businesses of rental equipment necessary for the organization of events.
He mentions that throughout time businesses and organizations have discovered that parties and events are a terrific marketing tool, ideal to maintain and better their image. He assures that more and more events are celebrated that try to maintain a market, an opportunity that presented itself before him to create, and little by little grow his business.
Carpets, tables, chairs, booths, tents, stands, dance floors and many other resources, are provided every year by Conventions & More for well known and important events such as An Affair of the Heart, Memorial and Red Bud Marathon, Red Earth, May Fair in Norman, News 9 Women’s Trade Show and the inauguration of the Liga Latina y Americana de Futbol of Oklahoma.
Saldivar oversees, directs and organizes along with his employees, each detail in each one of his events. It doesn’t matter how busy he might be his presence always characterizes the presentation and devotion of his services, another factor which his loyal clients appreciate.
Even though Saldivar’s business has won a positive reputation with his clients accomplishing that his working objectives and that his participants are satisfied, the business idea focuses on special private parties in Oklahoma City and areas near by, but also has worked on events in the states of Texas and Kansas.
Conventions & More is a member of the South Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce, North Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce and the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, it was also recognized as one of the best small businesses of the year by the Greater Oklahoma City Hispanic Chamber of Commerce in 2008.
Saldivar began his business very small in a place located on NW 36th and May Avenue en Oklahoma City, where he also offered delivery services. He began in a warehouse with two employees. At the present time his business uses seven warehouses with a complete inventory working with around 26 collaborators that are mostly Hispanic. One of the keys of his business is the oldest of his three children, his only son, Danny, a young man, who besides attending college, helps his father in several jobs, from graphics to personal interviews with the clients.
Before opening his business Saldivar worked in the hotel sector for many years in the area of banquets, he also did this in a rental company providing rental services for events, it was in these two jobs that he learned “the nuts and bolts” and the fundamentals in the great company that he has taken forward and leads with satisfaction.
Originally from Matamoros, Tamaulipas, a city which he describes as “the Capital of the World and a Paradise”, he came to this country on a summer vacation where during this time he had an opportunity to work. At the time he was still studying agriculture in Mexico, but after three years of studies he realized that his situation for job opportunities in his country were very small and that the United States would offer him a promising future.
Even though he didn’t dream of founding Conventions & More, he assures that his creation “wasn’t an option, but he noticed little by little the relation with the jobs that he had and the people that he met.” He adds that being positive, persistent and disciplined are the three attitudes that have permitted him to grow as a professional.
